Prior to their resignation from the University or the expiry of their employment contract, foreign postgraduate research fellows are required to download and fill out a First Bank Severance Pay Account Closure Application and submit it to the Cashier Division to settle their severance payment.
When reporting for work, International faculty members (including postdoctoral research fellows) are required to open an account with either Chunghwa Post Co., Ltd. or Bank SinoPac and provide their account information to the Cashier Division.
To open an account, please have the following documents ready:
1. Alien residence certificate or passport
2. Letter of appointment
3. Personal seal
Please provide the Cashier Division with your account information after opening the account.
To apply for retirement, faculty members must submit a photocopy of their household registration transcript, postal savings passbook cover, and designated civil service pension account passbook cover; the original copy of their teaching certificate (if certified to teach at multiple levels of education, all valid certificates); and a 1-inch photo.
To apply for survivor’s benefits, the family of the deceased faculty member need to submit the original copy of a death certificate or a household registration transcript indicating the faculty member’s death, the household registration transcript indicating each surviving family member’s right to inheritance, and a transcript of each eligible family member’s individual household registration. A photocopy of the chief beneficiary’s bank account passbook (must be a postal savings account or designated civil service pension account) and proof of burial/cremation are also required.
To request an extension of service, the provisions of the NCHU Directives Governing the Extension of Service by Professors and Associate Professors apply.
In principle, contract personnel are prohibited from pursuing part-time work or teaching engagements within or outside of NCHU, except where the University’s official business requires it and where such engagements will not interfere with regular duties. Contract personnel may be approved by the head of the competent unit to participate in up to two projects within the University, the remuneration for which may not exceed 40% of their base salary.
To foster industry-academia collaboration and in compliance with the Ministry of Education’s Principles for the Handling of Full-Time Teachers at All Levels Seeking Part-Time Engagements and the University’s general policy for more lenient handling of faculty members with part-time employment, NCHU permits faculty members to take on part-time employment or teaching engagements at private companies, government agencies, or other education institutions with the approval of the head of their respective unit and the University, provided that such engagements do not interfere with their teaching duties at NCHU.
Faculty members (and teaching assistants employed under the old system) are not required to sign in or out of work. Teaching assistants employed under the new system, however, are required to sign in and out of work within the flexible working hours (7:45–8:30 a.m. for sign-in and 4:45–5:30 p.m. for sign-out) on a daily basis, just as civil servants do. To request leave, please visit the online attendance/leave management system to submit a request.
Postdoctoral research fellows and full-time assistants are required to sign in and out of work during the same flexible working hours as those for staff members. They may only sign out of work 9 hours (including a 1-hour lunch break) after they sign in. Project personnel must sign in and out from the fixed IP address assigned to them. Part-time project personnel must sign in and out through the University’s attendance/leave management system based on the actual time they arrive at and leave work.
Contract personnel are required to sign in in the morning and sign out in the afternoon every day. They are allowed to sign off of work 8 hours after the sign-in time (not counting lunch break). Those signing in after 9 a.m. must submit a leave request or they will be recorded as absent without cause. To request a leave of absence, paid time-off, or official leave, contract personnel are required to complete the applicable procedures through the Online HR Information System and obtain the necessary approval before they may leave the University. In the event of an acute illness or emergency, contract employees may notify their supervisor verbally and ask a colleague, family member, or friend to complete the necessary procedures for them.
Faculty members who meet the criteria for teaching, research, consulting, or service performance may receive a one-step promotion in their pay grade (or seniority-based pay raise) up until the highest permissible grade/step for their position for each full academic year of service at the University.
