Student Visas

International students must obtain an alien resident visa at the Taiwan consular office in your home country before entering Taiwan. You must then apply for an alien resident certificate (ARC) on the National Immigration Agency website within 30 days of your arrival. Regular international students should be able to obtain an ARC that is valid for anywhere from 1 to 3 years, which may be renewed upon expiry.

Uniform Identification Number

Upon their arrival in Taiwan, non-resident aliens who wish to open a bank account, file for (income) taxes, or apply for a driver’s license must apply for a “unified identification number for foreign nationals” with the National Immigration Agency of the Ministry of the Interior by filling out the Basic Information Form for the Application of a R.O.C. Unified Identification Number.
