Part-Time Administrative Assistant Scholarships for Graduate Students

Part-time administrative assistants are considered labor-type (and not learning-type) assistants. Students’ eligibility to serve as part-time administrative assistants and the remuneration they are entitled to are determined separately by each department. Graduate students who are unable to perform their duties satisfactorily or who are subject to a demerit or more severe penalty will lose their right to apply for or continue to receive scholarship payments. Scholarship payments begin in August for current students (September for new students) and end in July of the following year.

Graduate Student Scholarship and Student Aid

* Graduate students may be entitled to scholarships or student aid:

1. Scholarships are awarded to new and current students with outstanding academic or research performance.

2. The following types of graduate students are entitled to student aid:

(1) Students who serve as teaching assistants and who actually perform teaching duties are entitled to student aids pursuant to the NCHU Guidelines for Recruitment and Selection Labor-based Teaching Assistants.

(2) Students who serve as part-time, labor-type administrative assistants are entitled to student aids in accordance with Article 8 herein.

* Scholarship and student aid payments begin in August for current students (September for new students) and end in July of the following year. The scholarship and student aid amount may be adjusted by each department, graduate institute, and degree program on a monthly basis.

* Each department, graduate institute, and degree program formulates its own scholarship and student aid review regulations, based on which a committee is established to review matters related to the application for and allocation of scholarship and student aid in the department, graduate institute, or degree program.

Academic Ethics

1. Target:

1) Full-time faculty members and research fellows must complete six hours of academic ethics training during their term of employment. Newly appointed personnel must complete training within one year of reporting for duty.

2) Part-time faculty members and full- and part-time research fellows must provide proof of at least six hours of training at the time of their appointment.

3) Personnel not described above who are part of an NCHU research project must provide proof of at least six hours of training at the time of their appointment or the commencement of the project.

2. Recognized academic ethics training courses:

1) Courses offered by the Center for Taiwan Academic Research Ethics Education

2) Academic research ethics courses offered by the University

3) Academic research ethics courses offered by regional learning resource centers

4) Epigeum–Research Integrity and CITI Program courses

5) Other academic research ethics courses approved by the University

For items 2) to 5) above, a certificate of completion issued by the organizing institution is required.

Question 4

NCHU-Funded Grants:Book and Instrument Grant

1. In principle, each full-time faculty member of the University may receive the grant up to three times in their first 10 years of employment.

2. This grant is intended only for the procurement of instruments, books, and electronic resources. faculty member must first attempt to secure funding from external sources (such as the Ministry of Education, National Science and Technology Council, Council of Agriculture, Ministry of Health and Welfare, Ministry of Economic Affairs) before they apply for this grant.

3. In principle, faculty member that have requested full funding from external agencies but are subsequently granted only partial funding will be given priority. The grant amount may not exceed NT$500,000 or the amount of funding provided by the external agency, whichever is smaller.

NCHU-Funded Grants:Academic Development Grant

1. Pursuant to the NCHU Directives for the Management of Revenues and Expenditures from Industry-Academia Collaboration Projects, the purpose of this grant is to enhance the quality of research and the University’s general development.

2. The following units and individuals are eligible for the grant:

1) NCHU units organizing an international or national scholarly conference

2) Organizers of scholarly activities that are attended by NCHU faculty members and students and/or individuals not affiliated with the University

3) International experts/scholars who are engaged in academic research at the University

4) NCHU faculty members whose papers are accepted by a scholarly journal

5) NCHU faculty members and students who are going abroad to present research findings, give lectures, or participate in academic exchanges

6) Organizers of training workshops for faculty members and students from NCHU and foreign academic institutions
