Beginning in Academic Year 2019–20, Information Literacy: Computer Programming and its Applications is now a compulsory general education course for all students except international students and continuing education undergraduate students. Please visit the General Education webpage for a list of departments that are exempt from the course. All freshmen at the University will automatically be pre-enrolled in the course. The course is conducted in two sessions, with the first taking place in the first nine weeks of the semester and the second in the last nine weeks.

Navigate to the NCHU homepage, click (tap) on the “Single Sign-On” link, and log into the system with your username and password. Once logged in, select “System Portal/Academic Affairs System” and then select “Course Management”:

1. In the “My Course” view, you can fill in the syllabus for each course to help students better understand the course contents. The following information can be supplied on the Academic Affairs System: course outline, weekly lecture topics, assessment methods, list of references, course materials, and office hours.

2. In the “Course History” view, you will see a list of courses you have previously offered.

We are currently in the process of translating the system interface and the course selection guide into English to allow international students to select, add/drop, deregister, or withdraw from courses without any assistance from local counterparts.

We are currently in the process of translating the Academic Affairs System’s user interface into English so that international students will be able to use the course inquiry, course selection, add/drop, deregisration, and withdrawal functions during the course add-drop period, and will be able to select their desired courses anywhere in the world without difficulty.

1.Bring your passport along with you, pay a processing fee of NT$100 at the payment kiosk located outside the Registrar’s Office.

2.Present your passport to proceed with the application for the English Degree Diploma.

To improve teaching quality, motivate students, and cultivate outstanding teaching assistants, NCHU offers funding for TAs in University-level general education courses and college-level (including inter-college) general core courses for undergraduate programs. The roles of the TAs include leading group discussions, explaining how to solve practice problems and conducting experiments. Each semester, NCHU selects the best TAs from the university and college level courses and awards them for outstanding performance.

The weekly basic teaching hours for full-time faculty members of the University are as follows:

  1. Full professors: 8 hours;
  2. Associate professors: 9 hours;
  3. Assistant professors: 9 hours;
  4. Lecturers: 10 hours.

1. New faculty members shall complete the following requirements within four semesters after their arrival at the post:

  • Participating in and obtaining the certificate for 12 sessions of Office of Academic Affairs-approved teaching skills courses
  • Obtaining the certificate for an Office of Academic Affairs-approved online teaching skill workshop for EMI courses

2. Under the following circumstance, new faculty members may be granted to waive the above requirements by submitting an application together with the necessary supporting documents to the Office of Academic Affairs for approval:

  • The faculty member is unable to participate in courses/workshops conducted in Chinese.
  • The faculty member has already completed other equivalent EMI workshops.
  • The faculty member has the equivalent teaching experience.
  • The faculty member has other extraordinary achievements or can demonstrate sufficient grounds for exemption.

4. English for General Academic Purposes (EGAP), English for Specific Academic Purposes (ESAP), and English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI) courses that meet the NCHU Standards for the Recognition of English-Taught Courses

5. Fully English-taught subject groups approved by a task force composed of the Vice President for International Affairs (convener), Vice President for Academic Affairs, and the dean of each college
