* There are seven types of student penalty: written warning, censure, minor demerit, major demerit, probation, expulsion, and revocation of academic standing.
* Course instructors and other relevant units may recommend a student award or penalty to the NCHU President for approval, but must cite the applicable regulations for said award/penalty and must do so in accordance with the applicable procedures.
* The procedures for the issuance of student awards and penalties are as follows:
1. Honorary/minor merits, censures, and minor demerits may be recommended by course instructors and other relevant units by providing the necessary supporting documents.

Each University varsity team holds tryouts to recruit new players. Depending on their student status, members of a varsity team may receive physical education credits for time spent in training. The number of required physical education courses is as follows:

A course selection notice shall be published each semester with instructions for online preliminary course selection, the online course add/drop period, course selection with instructor’s authorization, and the course withdrawal deadline, including course selection requirements, other important notices, and official contact information (including telephone extensions) for questions and inquiries.

Daytime undergraduate students may not select PE courses designated for continuing education undergraduate students, and vice versa. Please select PE courses via the academic system within the course selection period stipulated by the Division of Curriculum. Students admitted in or after Academic Year 2022–23 must take two semesters of PE courses before graduation, with up to two additional PE credits counting toward a student’s graduation credits (only if permitted by the student’s department). The University also offers Interaction Adjustment courses for students who are unable to take part in regular PE courses. Transfer students, readmitted students, and students who have been approved to take PE courses at another institution domestically or abroad, may apply to transfer PE credits within the application period stipulated by the University. 1. Students who face any of the following emergencies during their period of study at the University may be eligible for emergency relief funds:

• Hospitalization for an injury or illness when unable to pay for medical expenses due to financial hardship.
• A major familial incident resulting in financial hardship.
• Death.
• Other incidents that require emergency relief.

2. To apply for emergency relief funds, the affected student or their advisor should fill out the application form and submit it along with the necessary supporting documents to the department chair/institute director and college dean for signing. Applications will be reviewed by the Office of Student Affairs’ Division of Student Life, which shall then forward them to the University President for approval.

To improve teaching quality, motivate students, and cultivate outstanding teaching assistants, NCHU offers funding for TAs in University-level general education courses and college-level (including inter-college) general core courses for undergraduate programs. The roles of the TAs include leading group discussions, explaining how to solve practice problems and conducting experiments. Each semester, NCHU selects the best TAs from the university and college level courses and awards them for outstanding performance.

The school cafeteria is operated by a contractor that offers a variety of dining options, including an à la carte buffet, themed restaurants, a fast food place, and a convenience store. The NCHU Sports Facilities Management Regulations provide details (including application procedures and a fee schedule) for renting sports venues at the University (including the gym, sports field, rock-climbing wall, swimming pool, outdoor basketball courts, and outdoor volleyball courts) as well as usage guidelines and notices for each venue. The regulations also contain information on the available hours of all sports facilities during school semesters and summer/winter vacations.

To support our faculty and students in teaching, research, and learning, the NCHU Library website offers a wide range of services, including resource inquiries, reader service, and the latest news. The Library currently has more than 2 million top-quality books, journals, and electronic/digital resources available for quick access by faculty members and students.

To support faculty members’ and students’ teaching, research, learning, coursework, and recreational needs, the NCHU Library Multimedia Center has a wide collection of audiovisual media, tabletop games, and scientific exploration materials produced in Taiwan and abroad featuring educational and informative contents. The center also offers well-equipped spaces for faculties and students to use. The “Media Maker Space” is a public multimedia platform that supports mobile phones, desktops, and tablet computers. It provides open workspaces and discussion communities to allow readers to exchange ideas on audiovisual creations.

As part of NCHU’s 100th Anniversary, the area in front of the 1F copy room was remodeled into the NCHU Collection, which showcases around 1,500 works by NCHU faculty members as a means of demonstrating the University’s academic influence and the efforts of university faculty to pursue the advancement of research and knowledge. The official opening ceremony of the “NCHU Collection” was held on November 28, 2019.

The NCHU Art Center organizes art exhibitions and cultural exchanges, assists in the beautification of the campus, and works to improve faculty and students’ appreciation of art and strengthen their aesthetic education. The Center invites well-known local and international artists to hold exhibitions at the University after recommendation and approval by a consulting and review committee composed of experts and scholars. Each exhibition usually lasts about a month, and an average of eight art exhibitions are planned every year. The Center also organizes activities, international exchanges, lectures, presentations, symposiums, workshops, and other art and cultural events in conjunction with university campaigns. Additionally, the Center has a well-equipped curation room with a collection of over 1500 artworks, and publishes collection catalogues as a medium to promote cultural exchange.

1. Students who face any of the following emergencies during their period of study at the University may be eligible for emergency relief funds:

• Hospitalization for an injury or illness when unable to pay for medical expenses due to financial hardship.
• A major familial incident resulting in financial hardship.
• Death.
• Other incidents that require emergency relief.

2. To apply for emergency relief funds, the affected student or their advisor should fill out the application form and submit it along with the necessary supporting documents to the department chair/institute director and college dean for signing. Applications will be reviewed by the Office of Student Affairs’ Division of Student Life, which shall then forward them to the University President for approval.

3. Emergency relief funds of up to NT $30,000 may be released once per incident. The NCHU Student Emergency Relief Funds Application Guidelines and application form are available for download on the Division of Student Life website.

The Taiwanese Government offers a variety of scholarships for international students. Please direct your inquiries to the Taiwan consular office in your home country. The University offers the NCHU International Scholarship, a one-year scholarship available to both new and current students. Semesterly teaching assistant stipends are also available to graduate students who serve concurrently as teaching assistants.

Students may receive financial aid for student living expenses in exchange for teaching assistantships, campus environment maintenance, social services, and other service learning activities that are conducive to public and social welfare.

The Student Life Division reviews student eligibility and provides each department with Academic Excellence Award Certificates to be handed out to the recipients. No application is required.Undergraduate students with outstanding academic performance who make the List will be presented a certificate and an award of NT$3,000.One out of every 20 students in a class may be included on the List. In the event of a tie for the last eligible place, both (or all) students may be included.

Part-time administrative assistants are considered labor-type (and not learning-type) assistants. Students’ eligibility to serve as part-time administrative assistants and the remuneration they are entitled to are determined separately by each department. Graduate students who are unable to perform their duties satisfactorily or who are subject to a demerit or more severe penalty will lose their right to apply for or continue to receive scholarship payments. Scholarship payments begin in August for current students (September for new students) and end in July of the following year.

* Graduate students may be entitled to scholarships or student aid:

1. Scholarships are awarded to new and current students who demonstrate outstanding academic or research performance.

2. The following types of graduate students are entitled to student aid:

1) Students who serve as teaching assistants and who actually perform teaching duties are entitled to student aids pursuant to the NCHU Guidelines for Recruitment and Selection Labor-based Teaching Assistants.

2) Students who serve as part-time, labor-type administrative assistants are entitled to student aids in accordance with Article 8 herein.

* Scholarship and student aid payments begin in August for current students (September for new students) and end in July of the following year. The scholarship and student aid amount may be adjusted by each department, graduate institute, and degree program on a monthly basis.

* Each department, graduate institute, and degree program formulates its own scholarship and student aid review regulations, based on which a committee is established to review matters related to the application for and allocation of scholarship and student aid in the department, graduate institute, or degree program.

To complete the school-leaving process, graduating students must first complete all the necessary procedures required by the NCHU Library, which are different for undergraduate students and graduate students, as detailed below.

1. “Campus bullying” refers to any type of bullying behavior imposed on students of the University on or off campus by any faculty member, employee, contract worker, or student, regardless of their affiliation with NCHU.

2. Elements that constitute campus bullying:

• Behavior that disadvantages the victim
• Intent to harm the victim
• Causing physical or emotional damage to the victim
• Unequal power relations existing between the imposer and the victim.
• Other incidents deemed as bullying by the Campus Bullying Response Group.

3. The Ministry of Education Anti-Bullying Hotline (1953) has specialists online 24/7 to offer counseling and bullying reporting services.

1. When receiving a suspicious phone call, remember the “hear, hang up, and verify” principle. Hang up the phone immediately if you hear something suspicious, and call the 165 Fraud Prevention Hotline for verification. Do not transfer any money at a bank or ATM to avoid being scammed.
2. Fraud prevention: Please add Trend Micro Fraud Prevention Pro as a friend on LINE, install the Trend Micro Check browser extension, turn off iMessage when not in use, and keep the 3C (calm-check-call) principle in mind.
3. What to do if you have been scammed: Collect the necessary supporting documents and file a police report at the local police station or via the National Police Agency website, through which you may follow up on updates to your case.

1. All new students, regardless of their level of study, must undergo the new student health examination.

2. Examination method:

1) Students may accept the on-campus health examination service provided for all new students.

2) Alternatively, students may choose to undergo a health examination at an external medical institution if they are unable to attend the on-campus examination.

3. Other requirements:

1) Students who choose to have their health examinations performed elsewhere are required to pay for the cost out-of-pocket.

2) External health examination results are only valid if issued within the three months leading up to the new semester.

3) Number of sessions: In principle, each student may reserve up to two courses of treatment of six 50-minute weekly sessions each per semester.
4) Fees: Unless otherwise stipulated, the Center’s counseling services are provided to University students free of charge.
5) Confidentiality: The Center and its counselors will keep your information strictly confidential, except in circumstances of imminent danger posed to the lives of the student themselves or to others that necessitate a mandatory report according to the law.
6) Safety: For the safety of all parties involved, dangerous objects are prohibited in the counseling space.

1. Introduction:

Each counseling session is led by a professional counselor who guides participants to better understand themselves and their ideas, thoughts, and attitudes towards life through a series of explorative, topic-based activities. If you and your classmates are interested, you can sign up for a session or ask your academic advisor to do it for you.

2. Application procedures:

1) Download the application form from the Health and Counseling Center website.

2) Email the completed form to counsel@nchu.edu.tw.

3) Applications must be submitted at least 20 days in advance. A staff member will call or email you within 3 business days of receiving your application to confirm the details of the appointment.

4) Three days prior to the appointment, the staff member will call you again to confirm the contents of the counseling session and the necessary preparations on your part.

5) After the counseling session, participants are required to fill out a feedback questionnaire.

1. Students who are injured in an accident or hospitalized for treatment of an illness may file a student group insurance claim.

2. Eligibility: students with official NCHU student status or who are currently on a leave of absence are eligible as long as they continue to pay the necessary insurance premiums.

3. Deadline: claims must be submitted within 2 years of the incident.

4. Required documents:

1) An application form and a letter of consent for the insurance company’s inquiries

2) A certificate of diagnosis (original copy preferred, or photocopy with the official seal of the medical institution)

3) Medical bill receipt (original copy preferred, or photocopy with the official seal of the medical institution)

4) A photocopy of your passbook cover (with the account holder, branch number, and account number clearly legible)

5) For claims involving bone fractures, a copy of the X-ray image is required.

The minimum legal age for drinking and smoking is 20 in Taiwan, and driving under the influence of alcohol is strictly prohibited by law. Furthermore, cigarettes and alcoholic beverages are prohibited throughout NCHU.Many international students have fallen victim to scam calls, which are prevalent in Taiwan. As a reminder, do not provide any personal information such as your bank account number, online banking login credentials, date of birth, and even the romanized spelling of your name, as such information can be used to gain control of your bank account. When you receive a call from an unknown caller who claims to be a government, telecom, or bank employee, do not answer any questions or listen to their orders. Your best course of action is to hang up immediately, or ask for their number and report it to the 165 Antifraud Hotline (reachable by cellphones) to see if it is indeed a scam call.

An investigation into occupational accidents reveals that the majority (>80%) of accidents are caused by human error or unsafe behavior.

The most effective way to prevent such accidents is through labor safety and health training. This training helps promote safe working methods and correct hygiene practices, thereby preventing losses or injuries caused by occupational accidents.

The investigations into occupational accidents found that ‘man-caused factors’ are the major reasons behind these incidents. Approximately 80% of unsafe actions originate from human activities.

The prevention and control measures rely on the promotion of “labor occupational health and safety education and training.” This education and training help establish safe working methods and correct hygiene concepts for employees, effectively preventing losses and damages caused by occupational accidents.

It’s Foreign Student Insurance (International Students’ Group Medical Insurance). FSI is provided for the foreign students who are not eligible for National Health Insurance. A foreign student who does not have NHI is mandatory to enroll in the FSI plan, and the fee will be included in the tuition bill.

Program of the R.O.C.Foreigners with an Alien Resident Certificate (ARC) who have resided in Taiwan for more than six months are required to enroll in the National Health Insurance (NHI) program. (Within the six months, if the applicant leaves Taiwan for 2 times and more, or the departure time is longer than 1 month, the period will be recalculated.)

It’s Students Safety Insurance. SSI is required as the basic insurance plan for all registered NCHU students. All NCHU degree-seeking students are required to enroll in the SSI plan every semester.

The Student Buddy Program is organized by the University’s International Pioneer Club, which matches international students with locals who can help them learn about Taiwanese culture and adapt to life in Taiwan. Email accounts issued to NCHU students and faculty members may only be used for official or academic research purposes.

Wireless Internet may be accessed via an authentication webpage. NCHU faculty members and students can select the “NCHU” network and enter their email address and password to get connected.

Devices must be assigned a fixed IP address to access the campus network.

Faculty members and students can access the Google for Education service, which includes Gmail, Google Drive, and other useful applications. Please note that Gmail accounts are NOT considered official NCHU accounts. Internal messages will be sent to your @nchu.edu.tw and @mail.nchu.edu.tw accounts only. The Computer and Information Network Center procures software and updates based on the needs of the University on an annual basis.

At least one member of each startup team must be an NCHU faculty member, student, or graduate within the last five years. Application for a new trademark:Units that wish to apply for a new trademark must complete a trademark registration application and present it to the Academia-Industry Collaboration Center, which will then submit it to the Trademark Committee for review. If a trademark is deemed necessary, the Academia-Industry Collaboration Center will submit an official application to the competent authority. All fees associated with the application, issuance, and maintenance of the trademark will be borne entirely by the applying unit.

2. NCHU trademark licensing:Use of the University’s emblems, logos, and trademarks require licensing. NCHU may seek damages and issue a cease-and-desist order against any unauthorized use of its emblems, logos, and trademarks.

1) Non-commercial use:Only NCHU units, faculty/staff/students, clubs, and alumni associations may request non-commercial use of the University’s emblems, logos, and trademarks. Except for use on business cards and official documents/letters, which requires no application, users must submit a non-commercial use license application and affidavit to the Academia-Industry Collaboration Center for approval, and they may only use such emblems, logos, and trademarks within the scope of license.

2) Commercial use:Users must submit a commercial use license application and proposal to the Academia-Industry Collaboration Center. The Trademark Committee will determine the scope of the license upon review. The associated costs will be borne by the applicant (if they are not affiliated with NCHU). Each application requires a review fee of NT$20,000 to be paid by the deadline indicated on the written notice issued by the University.

Textbook Service allows the NCHU faculty to submit textbook requests to the Library. It aims to work with instructors to make assigned textbooks available to students. Patrons can refer to the textbook lists through the Library’s website as well. To ensure that course resources are as accessible as possible, the designated textbooks can only be checked out for a short loan period. Print books can be borrowed for 14 days and multimedia items offer a 5-day loan. Renewals are not permitted.

Professors may reserve reference materials for their courses. These may include books, periodicals, multimedia materials, journal articles, electronic resources, or self-made materials.Students can use the WebPAC’s “Course Reserves” function to look up and read materials for the current semester.To access course reserve materials, please present your student ID at the 1F Reference Information Desk or the 3F Multimedia Center and provide the name of the course and instructor.Please follow the usage guidelines so that more students are able to utilize course reserve materials.

The 160-seat Reading room is located on B1F and is available to NCHU faculty, staff, and students from 8 a.m. (9 a.m. on weekends and holidays) to midnight. Each seat is equipped with a reading lamp, USB port, and power outlets. Seats are divided into three zones. Zone A seats are provided on a first-come-first-serve basis. Zone C is the quiet area, and the use of notebook computers is prohibited in this area. Readers may make reservations through the Space Booking System up to 14 days in advance. Seats may be reserved for up to 8 hours at a time.

Faculty members may borrow designated research books procured under a publicly funded research project until the conclusion of the project, and they may extend the loan period beyond the project expiry date if necessary. • Each person may receive one subsidy per fiscal year. Those who have already received a subsidy may not apply for any other further international conference subsidies as a graduate student or otherwise in the same academic year.
• Subsidy recipients must submit a conference report and account settlement form to the NSTC’s system within 15 days of the conference’s conclusion in order to file for reimbursement.

For researchers, it is always crucial to make sure that all their academic research work and outcomes are properly connected. ORCID is the key to solving authorship identification issues and ensuring that all of a researcher’s works are connected to themselves.

Currently enrolled NCHU students who have had academic papers published under the auspices of the University are eligible.

Applicants must be the first or corresponding author of the thesis.The thesis must be a full academic journal article published in SCIE (Science Citation Index Expanded), SSCI (Social Sciences Citation Index), or A&HCI (Art & Humanities Citation Index).

Please submit a photocopy of the published paper as it appears in the journal (or a copy of the final draft along with the proof of acceptance/publication), obtain the signature of your advisor, and submit the application to the head of your department, the dean of your college, and the Chief of the Student Life Division for approval.

Faculty members may borrow designated research books procured under a publicly funded research project until the conclusion of the project, and they may extend the loan period beyond the project expiry date if necessary. Designated research books shall be returned to the Library’s collection and made available to the general public upon conclusion of the project or expiry of the loan.

The Student Buddy Program is organized by the University’s International Pioneer Club, which matches international students with locals who can help them learn about Taiwanese culture and adapt to life in Taiwan. NCHU has partner university agreements with multiple foreign institutions that provide NCHU students a wide range of short-term exchange opportunities, reciprocity programs, and scholarships.

The Taiwanese Government offers a variety of scholarships for international students. Please direct your inquiries to the Taiwan consular office in your home country. The University offers the NCHU International Scholarship, a one-year scholarship available to both new and current students. Semesterly teaching assistant stipends are also available to graduate students who serve concurrently as teaching assistants.

Students may receive financial aid for student living expenses in exchange for teaching assistantships, campus environment maintenance, social services, and other service learning activities that are conducive to public and social welfare.

The Student Life Division reviews student eligibility and provides each department with Academic Excellence Award Certificates to be handed out to the recipients. No application is required.Undergraduate students with outstanding academic performance who make the List will be presented a certificate and an award of NT$3,000.One out of every 20 students in a class may be included on the List. In the event of a tie for the last eligible place, both (or all) students may be included.

Part-time administrative assistants are considered labor-type (and not learning-type) assistants. Students’ eligibility to serve as part-time administrative assistants and the remuneration they are entitled to are determined separately by each department. Graduate students who are unable to perform their duties satisfactorily or who are subject to a demerit or more severe penalty will lose their right to apply for or continue to receive scholarship payments. Scholarship payments begin in August for current students (September for new students) and end in July of the following year.

* Graduate students may be entitled to scholarships or student aid:

1. Scholarships are awarded to new and current students who demonstrate outstanding academic or research performance.

2. The following types of graduate students are entitled to student aid:

1) Students who serve as teaching assistants and who actually perform teaching duties are entitled to student aids pursuant to the NCHU Guidelines for Recruitment and Selection Labor-based Teaching Assistants.

2) Students who serve as part-time, labor-type administrative assistants are entitled to student aids in accordance with Article 8 herein.

* Scholarship and student aid payments begin in August for current students (September for new students) and end in July of the following year. The scholarship and student aid amount may be adjusted by each department, graduate institute, and degree program on a monthly basis.

* Each department, graduate institute, and degree program formulates its own scholarship and student aid review regulations, based on which a committee is established to review matters related to the application for and allocation of scholarship and student aid in the department, graduate institute, or degree program.

A course selection notice shall be published each semester with instructions for online preliminary course selection, the online course add/drop period, course selection with instructor’s authorization, and the course withdrawal deadline, including course selection requirements, other important notices, and official contact information (including telephone extensions) for questions and inquiries.

To improve teaching quality, motivate students, and cultivate outstanding teaching assistants, NCHU offers funding for TAs in University-level general education courses and college-level (including inter-college) general core courses for undergraduate programs. The roles of the TAs include leading group discussions, explaining how to solve practice problems and conducting experiments. Each semester, NCHU selects the best TAs from the university and college level courses and awards them for outstanding performance.

1. When receiving a suspicious phone call, remember the “hear, hang up, and verify” principle. Hang up the phone immediately if you hear something suspicious, and call the 165 Fraud Prevention Hotline for verification. Do not transfer any money at a bank or ATM to avoid being scammed.

3. What to do if you have been scammed: Collect the necessary supporting documents and file a police report at the local police station or via the National Police Agency website, through which you may follow up on updates to your case.

1. All new students, regardless of their level of study, must undergo the new student health examination.

2. Examination method:

1) Students may accept the on-campus health examination service provided for all new students.

2) Alternatively, students may choose to undergo a health examination at an external medical institution if they are unable to attend the on-campus examination.

1) Students who choose to have their health examinations performed elsewhere are required to pay for the cost out-of-pocket.

2) External health examination results are only valid if issued within the three months leading up to the new semester.

1. Service introduction: International students who encounter difficulty adjusting to life in Taiwan, emotional distress, or interpersonal relationship issues may apply for counseling online, and the University will arrange counseling sessions with a therapist.

3) Number of sessions: In principle, each student may reserve up to two courses of treatment of six 50-minute weekly sessions each per semester.
4) Fees: Unless otherwise stipulated, the Center’s counseling services are provided to University students free of charge.
5) Confidentiality: The Center and its counselors will keep your information strictly confidential, except in circumstances of imminent danger posed to the lives of the student themselves or to others that necessitate a mandatory report according to the law.
6) Safety: For the safety of all parties involved, dangerous objects are prohibited in the counseling space.

The school cafeteria is operated by a contractor that offers a variety of dining options, including an à la carte buffet, themed restaurants, a fast food place, and a convenience store. The cafeteria is a great place to hang out with other faculty members, students, and people from neighboring communities.

International students who wish to work in Taiwan (including in NCHU laboratories) for additional income must apply for a work permit. Once all tuition and fees are paid for the semester, students may apply online for a work permit valid for 6 months. Each student may work up to 20 hours per week (excluding summer/winter vacation). Violators’ permits will be revoked.

The NCHU Sports Facilities Management Regulations provide details (including application procedures and a fee schedule) for renting sports venues at the University (including the gym, sports field, rock-climbing wall, swimming pool, outdoor basketball courts, and outdoor volleyball courts) as well as usage guidelines and notices for each venue. The regulations also contain information on the available hours of all sports facilities during school semesters and summer/winter vacations.

Founded in 2012, the National Chung Hsing University (NCHU) Press publishes works by NCHU faculty and students. By specializing in publishing academic monographs and scholarly journals, the NCHU Press promotes the production of scholarly works and strengthens the reputation of NCHU as a research university.

To support faculty members’ and students’ teaching, research, learning, coursework, and recreational needs, the NCHU Library Multimedia Center has a wide collection of audiovisual media, tabletop games, and scientific exploration materials produced in Taiwan and abroad featuring educational and informative contents. The center also offers well-equipped spaces for faculties and students to use. The “Media Maker Space” is a public multimedia platform that supports mobile phones, desktops, and tablet computers. It provides open workspaces and discussion communities to allow readers to exchange ideas on audiovisual creations.

As part of NCHU’s 100th Anniversary, the area in front of the 1F copy room was remodeled into the NCHU Collection, which showcases around 1,500 works by NCHU faculty members as a means of demonstrating the University’s academic influence and the efforts of university faculty to pursue the advancement of research and knowledge. The official opening ceremony of the “NCHU Collection” was held on November 28, 2019.

The University offers single sign-on (SSO) service to allow for easy access to important online resources without requiring separate authentication. Users only need to remember one set of login credentials to access all online services.

The NCHU Art Center organizes art exhibitions and cultural exchanges, assists in the beautification of the campus, and works to improve faculty and students’ appreciation of art and strengthen their aesthetic education. The Center invites well-known local and international artists to hold exhibitions at the University after recommendation and approval by a consulting and review committee composed of experts and scholars. Each exhibition usually lasts about a month, and an average of eight art exhibitions are planned every year. The Center also organizes activities, international exchanges, lectures, presentations, symposiums, workshops, and other art and cultural events in conjunction with university campaigns. Additionally, the Center has a well-equipped curation room with a collection of over 1500 artworks, and publishes collection catalogues as a medium to promote cultural exchange.

General waste disposal: General waste (including kitchen waste) is collected by campus garbage trucks at fixed locations between 8:20–10:35 a.m. every business day.

Recycling: Recyclable materials are collected by recycling trucks at fixed locations between 8:20–10:35 a.m. on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Application process for student ID card replacements

NCHU students can log into the system to view their registration status, student status, grades, class ranking, and other information.

1. Introduction:

Each counseling session is led by a professional counselor who guides participants to better understand themselves and their ideas, thoughts, and attitudes towards life through a series of explorative, topic-based activities. If you and your classmates are interested, you can sign up for a session or ask your academic advisor to do it for you.

2. Application procedures:

1) Download the application form from the Health and Counseling Center website.

2) Email the completed form to counsel@nchu.edu.tw.

3) Applications must be submitted at least 20 days in advance. A staff member will call or email you within 3 business days of receiving your application to confirm the details of the appointment.

4) Three days prior to the appointment, the staff member will call you again to confirm the contents of the counseling session and the necessary preparations on your part.

5) After the counseling session, participants are required to fill out a feedback questionnaire.

1. Students who are injured in an accident or hospitalized for treatment of an illness may file a student group insurance claim.

2. Eligibility: students with official NCHU student status or who are currently on a leave of absence are eligible as long as they continue to pay the necessary insurance premiums.

3. Deadline: claims must be submitted within 2 years of the incident.

4. Required documents:

1) An application form and a letter of consent for the insurance company’s inquiries

2) A certificate of diagnosis (original copy preferred, or photocopy with the official seal of the medical institution)

3) Medical bill receipt (original copy preferred, or photocopy with the official seal of the medical institution)

4) A photocopy of your passbook cover (with the account holder, branch number, and account number clearly legible)

5) For claims involving bone fractures, a copy of the X-ray image is required.

The minimum legal age for drinking and smoking is 20 in Taiwan, and driving under the influence of alcohol is strictly prohibited by law. Furthermore, cigarettes and alcoholic beverages are prohibited throughout NCHU.Many international students have fallen victim to scam calls, which are prevalent in Taiwan. As a reminder, do not provide any personal information such as your bank account number, online banking login credentials, date of birth, and even the romanized spelling of your name, as such information can be used to gain control of your bank account. When you receive a call from an unknown caller who claims to be a government, telecom, or bank employee, do not answer any questions or listen to their orders. Your best course of action is to hang up immediately, or ask for their number and report it to the 165 Antifraud Hotline (reachable by cellphones) to see if it is indeed a scam call.

Textbook Service allows the NCHU faculty to submit textbook requests to the Library. It aims to work with instructors to make assigned textbooks available to students. Patrons can refer to the textbook lists through the Library’s website as well. To ensure that course resources are as accessible as possible, the designated textbooks can only be checked out for a short loan period. Print books can be borrowed for 14 days and multimedia items offer a 5-day loan. Renewals are not permitted.

Professors may reserve reference materials for their courses. These may include books, periodicals, multimedia materials, journal articles, electronic resources, or self-made materials.Students can use the WebPAC’s “Course Reserves” function to look up and read materials for the current semester.To access course reserve materials, please present your student ID at the 1F Reference Information Desk or the 3F Multimedia Center and provide the name of the course and instructor.Please follow the usage guidelines so that more students are able to utilize course reserve materials.

The 160-seat Reading room is located on B1F and is available to NCHU faculty, staff, and students from 8 a.m. (9 a.m. on weekends and holidays) to midnight. Each seat is equipped with a reading lamp, USB port, and power outlets. Seats are divided into three zones. Zone A seats are provided on a first-come-first-serve basis. Zone C is the quiet area, and the use of notebook computers is prohibited in this area. Readers may make reservations through the Space Booking System up to 14 days in advance. Seats may be reserved for up to 8 hours at a time.

The Library provides NCHU faculty, staff, and students with interlibrary loan service from the libraries of 24 partner universities in Central Taiwan, 24 other academic institutions and higher education institutions, and 3 teaching hospitals.

The NCHU Library built the Digital Learning Resources Platform to satisfy readers’ desire to learn no matter the time or place. The Platform contains library guides, library resource utilization courses, database query instructions, lectures, and computer software courses.

An investigation into occupational accidents reveals that the majority (>80%) of accidents are caused by human error or unsafe behavior.

The most effective way to prevent such accidents is through labor safety and health training. This training helps promote safe working methods and correct hygiene practices, thereby preventing losses or injuries caused by occupational accidents.

The investigations into occupational accidents found that ‘man-caused factors’ are the major reasons behind these incidents. Approximately 80% of unsafe actions originate from human activities.

The prevention and control measures rely on the promotion of “labor occupational health and safety education and training.” This education and training help establish safe working methods and correct hygiene concepts for employees, effectively preventing losses and damages caused by occupational accidents.

I am interested in a spot at the Startup@NCHU Innovation Center. How can I apply?

1. Eligibility check

At least one member of each startup team must be an NCHU faculty member, student, or graduate within the last five years. This individual must be a core member of the team.The startup team must have a creative product prototype or innovative business model and have completed a preliminary startup proposal, or possess an entrepreneurial technical team with tangible R&D results (such as patents and technical know-how) that can be readily commercialized.

2. Preliminary inquiries

The startup team representative makes a preliminary inquiry with the Center to determine the team’s eligibility and whether space is still available.

If everything goes well, the startup team can begin to prepare the application documents.The startup team representative may call or visit the Center in person to make the necessary arrangements.

1. Application for a new trademark:Units that wish to apply for a new trademark must complete a trademark registration application and present it to the Academia-Industry Collaboration Center, which will then submit it to the Trademark Committee for review. If a trademark is deemed necessary, the Academia-Industry Collaboration Center will submit an official application to the competent authority. All fees associated with the application, issuance, and maintenance of the trademark will be borne entirely by the applying unit.

2. NCHU trademark licensing:Use of the University’s emblems, logos, and trademarks require licensing. NCHU may seek damages and issue a cease-and-desist order against any unauthorized use of its emblems, logos, and trademarks.

1) Non-commercial use:Only NCHU units, faculty/staff/students, clubs, and alumni associations may request non-commercial use of the University’s emblems, logos, and trademarks. Except for use on business cards and official documents/letters, which requires no application, users must submit a non-commercial use license application and affidavit to the Academia-Industry Collaboration Center for approval, and they may only use such emblems, logos, and trademarks within the scope of license.

2) Commercial use:Users must submit a commercial use license application and proposal to the Academia-Industry Collaboration Center. The Trademark Committee will determine the scope of the license upon review. The associated costs will be borne by the applicant (if they are not affiliated with NCHU). Each application requires a review fee of NT$20,000 to be paid by the deadline indicated on the written notice issued by the University.

It’s Foreign Student Insurance (International Students’ Group Medical Insurance). FSI is provided for the foreign students who are not eligible for National Health Insurance. A foreign student who does not have NHI is mandatory to enroll in the FSI plan, and the fee will be included in the tuition bill.

Program of the R.O.C.Foreigners with an Alien Resident Certificate (ARC) who have resided in Taiwan for more than six months are required to enroll in the National Health Insurance (NHI) program. (Within the six months, if the applicant leaves Taiwan for 2 times and more, or the departure time is longer than 1 month, the period will be recalculated.)

It’s Students Safety Insurance. SSI is required as the basic insurance plan for all registered NCHU students. All NCHU degree-seeking students are required to enroll in the SSI plan every semester.

Upon their arrival in Taiwan, non-resident aliens who wish to open a bank account, file for (income) taxes, or apply for a driver’s license must apply for a “unified identification number for foreign nationals” with the National Immigration Agency of the Ministry of the Interior by filling out the Basic Information Form for the Application of a R.O.C. Unified Identification Number.

International students must obtain an alien resident visa at the Taiwan consular office in your home country before entering Taiwan. You must then apply for an alien resident certificate (ARC) on the (Ministry of the Interior) National Immigration Agency website within 15 days of your arrival. Regular international students should be able to obtain an ARC that is valid for anywhere from 1 to 3 years, which may be renewed upon expiry.

International students who wish to work in Taiwan (including in NCHU laboratories) for additional income must apply for a work permit. Once all tuition and fees are paid for the semester, students may apply online for a work permit valid for 6 months. Each student may work up to 20 hours per week (excluding summer/winter vacation). Violators’ permits will be revoked.
